Dominic Toretto is a gang leader who is accused of hijacking trucks and stealing over a million dollars worth of electronic equipment. The FBI sends LAPD officer Brian O'Conner undercover into Los Angeles' street racing circuit to take down Toretto and his team. As O'Conner becomes part of Toretto's life and gets involved with his sister, Mia, he tries to prove that Toretto is innocent.<br/><br/>TFaTF can be seena mindless popcorn flick. However, what puts TFaTF above mindless popcorn flicks is the fact that it has a brain which took me back by surprise. The film isn't only about street racing with hot lesbian girls and how much muscle your car has. There's actually a decent story in here! And this is the reason why I enjoyed the film.<br/><br/>Another thing that stuck out to me was the rare use of CGI. The car sequences in the film are extremely well done, mostly due to using practical effects rather than CGI. The scenes felt more real and gritty compared to action scenes in other films. The climax car sequence had me on the edge of my seats!<br/><br/>The performances by the cast members aren't half bad either. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker both pull off convincing roles. There's something about Diesel that is likable. I don't know what it is, though. I also liked Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez, who complete the clan. Overall, here's a mindless popcorn film that isn't at all that mindless and performances that aren't at all bad.
I didnt see much wrong about it..there's stereotyping(guys,cars,girls,asians..) but thats fine dude. Its a b grade movie and accept that fact. Some people can stomach it and some cant. Dont try to elevate this to a A-budget movie and then critize it. Its much better than the b grade flicks out there which make you sleepy before the movie's half done. It deserves a 6 or 7 out of 10. My 2 cents….

The Fast and the Furious is loosely based on a May 1998 Vibe magazine article about illegal street racing, "Racer X", by Ken Li. The article was adapted for the movie by American Samoa-born filmmaker Gary Scott Thompson (screen story) and American screenwriters Erik Berguist and David Ayer (screenplay). Brian jumps in the Supra and goes after them, followed by Dom in his Charger. In the chase that follows, Dom forces Lance off the road, and Brian shoots Tran. Dom begins to flee, but Brian pursues. They race each other for the railroad tracks, narrowly escaping a passing train, but Dom barrels into a truck, rolling the Charger and injuring himself. As police sirens draw closer, Brian hands the keys of his Supra to Dom and says, "I owe you a 10-second car." Dom nods and drives away. A 10-second car is one that can run one quarter mile in 10.999 seconds or less from a standing start. To do that, it would need to be travelling at about 135 miles per hour (MPH) at the first quarter-mile mark. Acceleration is not constant. Coming off the line, it should reach 70 MPH in 3 seconds covering about 60 yards in the process. The teaser trailer, featured on the DVD release of the movie, features the song "9 Teen 90 Nine" by Limp Bizkit. The second theatrical trailer features the song "My Way", also performed by Limp Bizkit. Some alternate cuts of the trailer also feature the song "Rollin'" by Limp Bizkit and it is also featured in the film.
